The overcoming depression group offered in Doncaster is a 6 week psychoeducation and skills-based group using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) principles. The course teaches CBT interventions to help overcome depression, including, improving your sleep, tackling avoidance, recognising and challenging negative thinking and problem solving.
The course is facilitated by a psychological wellbeing practitioner (PWP) and currently delivered using Microsoft Teams. It is a lecture-style course so you will not be expected to share any personal information about yourself and there is no expectation to speak in front of others. However, some case studies are used to illustrate the techniques and you are welcome to comment on these and contribute in session exercises if you would like to.
Once you have completed an assessment session with a PWP and the depression group is agreed to be the most suitable treatment option, the PWP can refer you on to have access to the in-house course.
