WE ARE OPEN. We are continuing to accept referrals. Throughout the pandemic we have been offering telephone, video and online therapy, all of which have proved to be successful. Face to face appointments are also available. Due to Coronavirus (Covid-19), we have made some temporary changes to keep you and our staff safe.

Psychological wellbeing practitioner

At North Lincs IAPT all patients are offered a 45 minute assessment with a psychological wellbeing practitioner (PWP), who will assess whether IAPT is the most appropriate service to meet their needs.

PWPs are specially trained to assess patients and deliver low intensity psychological interventions, which are based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). The interventions are time-limited and the length and number of sessions you will receive will be discussed in your assessment.

A PWP aims to help you better understand your problems and teaches you tools and techniques to help manage your symptoms and reduce the impact they are having on your life. A PWP will use evidence-based techniques and self-help materials and resources to help you to make positive changes to the way you think, feel and behave.

North Lincs IAPT PWP’s can help with:

  • stress
  • depression
  • generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
  • obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • panic disorder
  • specific phobias
  • agoraphobia

How are low intensity psychological interventions delivered?

Low intensity psychological interventions are delivered by a PWP on a one-to-one basis via telephone, video conferencing, computerised cognitive behavioural therapy (cCBT) or in a group format. Whichever way your therapy is delivered, you will receive an assessment, treatment and a relapse prevention plan to help you maintain the progress you have made.

If at your assessment it is agreed that your needs cannot be met within the IAPT service, the PWP will look to signpost or refer you to alternate services that may be better able to help you.

PWP interventions are not a quick fix, it involves hard work both within and outside of the session. We find that people who engage with homework tasks tend to make the most progress in improving their lives.

PWP interventions are time-limited and the number of sessions you require will be discussed with you. You will need to commit to attending regularly to make the best use of therapy.
