Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services provide short-term interventions, which include both low and high intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). The Rotherham and Doncaster IAPT service also offer counselling for depression, couples therapy for depression and generic counselling.
All services accept self-referrals and referrals from other agencies for people aged 18 years and above registered with a local GP within the relevant area (Doncaster, Rotherham or Scunthorpe). The interventions are currently being delivered by telephone appointments or online appointments in light of the current situation with the pandemic. The contact details for each of our IAPT services can be found on the Contact us page.
More information about the specific services that each IAPT team offer can be found on the individual service pages.
To self-refer online please use one of our self-referral form. Use the relevant form for the area of the GP practice that you are registered with.
People who may benefit from a course of treatment will be booked an initial assessment appointment with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. Once this assessment has been performed the client and the practitioner will negotiate the most beneficial intervention and refer to the appropriate clinician/group if required.
Types of therapy
The IAPT services offer a number of different therapies on a one-to-one basis to support individuals suffering from anxiety or depression. Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners in all three services (Rotherham IAPT, Doncaster IAPT and Scunthorpe IAPT) provide guided self-help techniques, which are based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles, focusing on thoughts feeling and behaviours.
Therapies that are also offered across all three services include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), delivered by CBT therapists.
Counselling for depression is delivered by Doncaster IAPT and Rotherham IAPT to address symptoms of depression by focusing on the feelings that you have, allowing you to explore and make more sense of them. You will also be able to better understand the impact that those feelings are having on your life. Please see your local areas content on the website for more information on counselling for depression.
Couples therapy for depression is also offered by Doncaster IAPT and Rotherham IAPT to support individuals suffering from depression, that use the relationship as a resource to help support the individual and their partner.
All three services provide a range on psychoeducational courses aimed at teaching you how your mental health can be affected and a range of techniques to help you improve your symptoms.
The Rotherham and Doncaster IAPT services offer computerised CBT (CCBT) through a platform called Mind District. This is an online programme based on the principles of CBT that can be accessed immediately.
